The New Year is well loved for fresh starts. There is such excitement and hope. Many make resolutions, promises to ourselves to change for the better somehow.
For the past three years, I have adopted a word of the year (WOTY) instead of a resolution. My mentor Laura Thompson Brady will be hosting her annual free WOTY call on January 6. I encourage you to join and I will provide more information once it is released.
What I love about choosing a WOTY is that it isn’t based on something bad in my life I need to fix; it is based upon my intention to strive to be my best self.
In 2018, I discovered moon cycling. Now, I could carry my WOTY into each monthly cycle, using it to set specific monthly intentions. It was like being awarded twelve New Year’s Days! A fresh start every new moon.
Then, I discovered my daily mantra, the thing that has essentially turned every single sunrise into New Year’s Day.
This mantra reminds me that every single morning, I am given a fresh start. It is a new day to be a good mom to Lucy. It is a new day to feed my body well. It is a new day to drink enough water. It is a new day to leave work on time. It is a new day to connect with my partner. It is a new day to move my body in a way that feels good.
It is a new day to choose to believe the true statement:
I am the best mother for my child because I take damn good care of myself.
