Information Overload

In many ways, it is harder to have a baby right now than it was when I had a baby 19 years ago. It is also harder than it was when I started practicing as a lactation consultant over 15 years ago.

It’s harder because there is a storm of information to weed through whenever you have a question or concern. No longer can we say “don’t Google that.” Google has become more reliable and very tempting. Not sure if this is normal? Wondering how to troubleshoot a breastfeeding issue? You will likely find yourself Googling it. You might find the “right” answer, but it will be buried in multiple wrong answers.

Then there’s social media where you’re overwhelmed with rapid fire videos and posts. Sure they give you some good ideas, but they also can trigger worries that likely aren’t founded in what’s real in your life.

That said, there is the need to learn about the changing phases and stages of your baby’s life. It isn’t as common to rely on a book for guidance these days. Instead most parents find themselves relying on the internet to learn.

At Balanced Breastfeeding, we seek to create a protected online learning environment away from social media. Our clients have access to the Client Resource Page, a private website designed to be a safe way to learn about breastfeeding from pregnancy through weaning.

We have found that having this breastfeeding curriculum gives parents the quality information they need at a realistic pace of learning.

Parenthood is about learning how to know your own child and their unique needs. It is about trusting yourself and feeling into what is right for your family. You can’t find this online. You can only find it within yourself.

You can learn how to trust yourself by relying on select trusted professionals and resources to guide you along the way. My goal is to help clients feel more self confident and empowered after their appointments with me.
